Summary

The Quality Manager will lead the Quality function within the Shawflex division of the Connection Technologies Group. This role is accountable for maintaining effective quality management systems, including ISO 9001, N299.2, NQA-1/10CFR50 Appendix B, and AS9100D, while supporting compliance with applicable CSA, UL, customer, and regulatory requirements. The Quality Manager will oversee inspection and laboratory functions, strengthen internal and external quality performance, and promote a quality-focused culture throughout the organization. 
As a key member of the Shawflex senior management team, the Quality Manager will have a direct impact on customer satisfaction, the cost of quality, regulatory compliance, and the organization’s Continuous Improvement culture. Through the Mattr Management System, Lean, Six Sigma, and other established methodologies, this leader will improve quality processes, strengthen problem-solving capabilities, and help Shawflex deliver consistently against its business and customer commitments. 

Responsibilities

Lead quality performance and compliance

  • Provide visible leadership in the pursuit of “Utopian (Perfect) Quality” and establish a strong quality mindset across the organization.
  • Maintain compliant ISO 9001, N299, NQA-1, and AS9100D quality management systems, including chairing management reviews and serving as the organization’s Quality Management Representative.
  • Build and maintain effective internal and external audit capabilities to support compliance, organizational learning, and performance improvement.
  • Represent Shawflex on quality matters with customers, nuclear utilities, Sales and Marketing, suppliers, CSA, UL, auditors, and other internal and external parties.
  • Serve as the escalation point for nuclear quality issues and concerns, ensuring that risks and required actions receive appropriate leadership attention. 

Strengthen systems and resolve quality issues

  • Develop, implement, and maintain corrective and preventive action programs that address customer quality concerns and internal non-conformances.
  • Coordinate and delegate corrective-action responsibilities across departments to support timely and effective resolution of quality issues.
  • Oversee quality processes and systems covering non-conformance reports, corrective-action reports, customer complaints, document management, and calibration.
  • Establish and reinforce a strong problem-solving culture using A3, 8D, 5 Why, and other recognized problem-solving techniques.
  • Improve customer satisfaction and reduce the cost of quality by addressing systemic issues and strengthening the effectiveness of quality controls. 

Build inspection, laboratory, and supplier quality capabilities

  • Lead laboratory staff and maintain the inspection, laboratory, and audit capabilities needed to support business plans.
  • Oversee the supplier quality management process, including supplier selection, performance management, audits, supplier non-conformances, and corrective or preventive action follow-up.
  • Develop a strong supplier management system that improves supplier performance and supports business and customer requirements.
  • Provide supervision, technical direction, work methods, procedures, and instructions to Quality, laboratory, and inspection personnel.
  • Support projects, including new product development and product launches, where quality oversight is required. 

Drive measurable continuous improvement

  • Improve and streamline quality processes and systems through digitization and effective process management.
  • Use the Mattr Management System, Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to enhance existing processes and organizational performance.
  • Coach and mentor teams in continuous improvement and develop effective training programs for the Quality function.
  • Strengthen the internal audit function as an organizational self-assessment capability.
  • Support the continued improvement and scaling of the nuclear order execution process.
  • Maintain accountability for organizational quality metrics and key performance indicators, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and associated performance improvement. 

Lead the function and support business priorities

  • Prepare annual departmental fixed-cost and capital-spending budgets and provide quality-related input into strategic and capital plans.
  • Maintain performance reporting and management systems, including monthly reports and applicable employee performance systems.
  • Support sales goals and initiatives through effective engagement with internal and external groups.
  • Complete performance appraisals and salary administration for Quality staff.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members through training, feedback, and professional-development support.
  • Ensure that Mattr operational and financial standards related to Quality, including Bill 198 and NDA requirements, are deployed and maintained.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant technical degree or diploma.
  • Additional quality-related education or training is considered an asset. 

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience across quality management, quality systems, laboratory operations, inspection, manufacturing, or regulatory and standards environments.
  • Strong working experience with ISO 9001 management systems.
  • Experience with N299, NQA-1, and AS9100 quality systems, as well as CSA and UL standards.
  • Previous experience supervising or managing laboratory operations and Quality personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience providing quality leadership and applying statistical analysis to quality performance and complex issues. 

Certifications and technical capabilities

  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Internal Auditor certification or training and Lead Auditor certification or training.
  • Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Manager designation is considered an asset.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with A3, 8D, 5 Why, and related problem-solving methods.
  • Strong statistical-analysis capability and the ability to review and interpret quality systems, regulatory standards, audits, non-conformances, customer complaints, corrective actions, key performance indicators, budgets, and complex quality risks.
  • Strong understanding of Lean and continuous improvement principles.
  • Exceptional training, coaching, and facilitation skills.

The Salary Range for this position is $120,000 to $135,000. The provided range represents the anticipated base salary and target incentive for this position. The final total compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. This job is vacant to fill a replacement.
