Product Development Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:
As part of the Product Development team, the Engineering Intern will actively support various product development activities, including preparation, testing, and analyzing various materials to assess their performance. They will coordinate and conduct production trials, gather data, and analyze results to ensure consistency and quality. The student will also collaborate with external testing laboratories to obtain accurate testing and reporting of material properties. Additionally, they will assist with supplier engagement, documentation, and reporting to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements. Furthermore, the role involves troubleshooting product performance issues, providing data-driven insights and recommendations. 

DUTIES:
Assisting the Product Development Specialist to:

• Develop new products including novel polymeric materials formulations and product configurations in wire and cable applications
• Mix formulations and prepare samples for test
• Test products for various physical, mechanical, thermal, chemical, and electrical characteristics
• Coordinate and run production trials under the guidance of senior team members
• Support continuous improvement activities
• Contribute to the preparation of reports to document performance capabilities for customers 
• Assess materials composition for regulatory compliance

REQUIREMENTS:

• Completed 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of Materials, Chemical, polymer or Industrial Engineering.

• Previous Polymer Analytical Testing experience - preferred.
• Familiarity with polymer processing technique specifically extrusion - preferred.
• Familiarity with polymer compounds and composites, flame retardants, resins, and other additives - preferred.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques - preferred.

• Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills, forward thinking.
• Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Fast learner & ability to both lead and work within a team.
• Leader who will take on a “hands-on” approach.
• Positive attitude, goal driven, team player.
