Process Safety Technologist

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Process Safety Technologist (PST) will improve/standardize and maintain best working practices with respect to machine guarding and functional safety of machinery and equipment lines within the A&I Rexdale/Vaughan facilities. This role will address compliance to workplace safety standards and providing a safe and healthy workplace for employees as well as supporting safe delivery of new process introductions, operational cost savings, and capacity improvements.
The PST will be principal in providing direction and co-ordination of key safety improvement programs and maintaining PSHSR compliance through facility transition and new equipment line integration.

Training in machine guarding and project management will be provided to the incumbent. New graduates and candidates with millwright experience are encouraged to apply.

Additional responsibilities of the role will include:
•    Self-driven and independently managing projects requiring communication with multiple stakeholders and under budgetary, time and resource constraints
•    Co-ordinating and supporting outside vendor structured projects for larger safety improvement projects/initiatives
•    Building and maintaining outside vendor relationships for efficient integration practices
•    Actively collaborating within the process engineering, operations and HSE team to provide practical solutions regarding machine guarding and functional safety
•    Developing and managing machine/task based risk assessments and employing risk based tools to drive actions and provide positive feedback for continuous improvement initiatives
•    Demonstrate structured safety initiative effectiveness employing common standard tools to jurisdiction such as provided in CSA Z1002, Z432, Z434, ANSI B11, ISO13849
•    Engaging directly with production to facilitate training and feedback focused on operational safety improvement
•    Generation and revision of work instructions, standard operating procedures and lessons learned
•    Executing efficiently structured and strategic problem-solving processes addressing medium-long term corrective actions for more complex problems
•    Use of CAD, generation of drawings and management of fabrication vendors for internal fabrication projects supporting safety guarding and safety system integration
•    Facilitating embedded knowledge transfer within the team regarding process safety principles and best practices

 

DUTIES:
1.    Manage outside vendor projects including scoping, quoting, CAPEX initiation/approval and execution of machine-guarding related projects
2.    Design, coordinate and execute internal machine guarding projects such as fixed guarding to ensure equipment meet standards
3.    Complete and maintain PSHSR document library for all equipment lines
4.    Co-ordinate, complete and maintain task/machine based risk assessments to demonstrate conformance to applicable standards of jurisdiction
5.    Ensure management of change is completed for new and redesigned processes and equipment
6.    Generate related documents for machine guarding and process safety
7.    Facilitate internal training and knowledge transfer with respect to machine safety activities

 

REQUIREMENTS:

-    Experience in CAD Design for manufacturing equipment and machineries is preferred

-    Knowledge and experience in CAD Design ex. AutoCAD, SolidWorks is required.

-    Above average mechanical aptitude
-    Practical machine shop and/or millwright experience is preferred
-    Experience in machine guarding is an asset.

-    Working knowledge of CSA Z1002, Z434, Z432 and ISO 13849 is an asset

-     Previous Manufacturing experience is a must 
-    Minimum High School education
-    Good project management skills

-    Good interpersonal and communication skills

-     Ability to work fully onsite
-     Ability to work at least 50% of the time in shop floor during execution (Industrial work environment)
