Role Purpose
The Director, Flexpipe Operations provides strategic leadership across Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost‑effective operational performance. Reporting to the VP, Operatrions, Composite Technologies, this role drives a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across the Flexpipe network.
Key Performance Expectations
Operational Excellence & Manufacturing Performance
- Lead the Flexpipe manufacturing network to deliver consistent production performance aligned with monthly, quarterly, and annual commitments.
- Optimize capacity planning, resource allocation, maintenance programs, and operational cost structures.
- Ensure standard cost accuracy and proactively address performance variances with timely mitigation plans.
- Establish disciplined governance routines that strengthen operational transparency, predictability, and execution.
Safety Leadership & Risk Management
- Champion Mattr’s Incident & Injury Free (IIF) philosophy and embed a proactive safety culture across all facilities.
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership through coaching, site engagement, and risk identification.
- Ensure all employees and contractors meet competency standards and follow safe work practices.
- Drive continuous improvement in HSE performance year over year.
Strategic Supply Chain & Logistics
- Lead the development and execution of a supply chain strategy that enhances resilience, reduces business continuity risk, and optimizes cost.
- Strengthen procurement effectiveness, supplier relationships, and KPI‑driven supplier performance management.
- Oversee pipe planning across manufacturing sites to maximize profitability, efficiency, and service levels.
- Ensure logistics operations support reliable and timely distribution to customers and distribution hubs.
Quality Leadership & Customer Experience
- Ensure robust quality systems are consistently implemented across all manufacturing locations.
- Improve internal and external quality performance through disciplined root‑cause analysis and durable corrective actions.
- Partner across Engineering, Supply Chain, and site leadership to proactively manage supplier quality risks.
- Enhance customer experience through predictable delivered quality and reduced variability.
Continuous Improvement & Standardization
- Accelerate CI maturity across the network by cultivating a high‑engagement problem‑solving culture.
- Lead the prioritization and successful execution of strategic CAPEX and OPEX initiatives.
- Promote best‑practice sharing and intelligent standardization to strengthen operational scalability and efficiency.
- Identify systemic pain points and drive structural improvements across processes and systems.
Leadership, Talent Development & Culture
- Provide mentorship and coaching to operational leaders, strengthening capability, alignment, and accountability.
- Build a robust succession pipeline and elevate leadership effectiveness across all levels of the organization.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, empowerment, and continuous learning.
- Model integrity, performance excellence, and strong interpersonal leadership.
Governance, Compliance & Operational Integrity
- Maintain strong governance frameworks including KPIs, dashboards, scorecards, and performance management systems.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, labor, HSE, quality, and certification requirements.
- Lead or support audits with discipline, transparency, and a focus on continuous improvement.
- Strengthen operational controls and reinforce practices that support sustainable, compliant operations.
Requirements
Education & Professional Credentials
- University degree required; graduate degree or additional qualifications in Supply Chain or Engineering preferred.
- MBA preferred.
- Chartered or professional designation is an asset (Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Lean Manufacturing).
Technical & Operational Expertise
- Proven manufacturing leadership experience with a history of process optimization and productivity improvement.
- Strong practical experience with Lean, Six Sigma, JIT, TQM, Kaizen, DDMRP, and related methodologies.
- Expertise in operations management, process improvement, and supply chain optimization.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret and act on operational and financial data.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP platforms, inventory systems, planning tools, and supply chain applications.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a data‑driven decision‑making approach.
Hands‑On Leadership Capability
Experience successfully navigating and leading through:
- Site commissioning, new equipment or process launches, and associated change management.
- Site decommissioning and transition planning.
- Supplier quality incidents, QMS failures, and supplier qualification delays.
- Customer incidents and structured resolution management.
- Cross‑functional conflict resolution and people leadership challenges.
- Contractor management and supply chain risk mitigation.
- Relationships with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and external partners.
- Underperforming quality performance and related training, coaching, and change adoption.
- Employee development, team culture shaping, and organizational change.
