Summary

The Mechanical Designer is a key member of the Xerxes Design Support Team, playing a critical role in shaping the customer experience by delivering accurate, high‑quality sales drawings for bespoke underground storage tanks. As an early technical touchpoint for customers, this role directly influences market perception through strong technical execution, clear communication, and a consistent focus on first‑time quality. Working closely with Engineering, Sales, and internal partners, the Mechanical Designer ensures customer requirements are translated into compliant, build‑ready designs that support both Fuel and Water product lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create accurate technical sales drawings for bespoke underground storage tanks using SolidWorks and, where required, AutoCAD.
  • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings that meet customer specifications, regulatory standards, and internal quality requirements.
  • Interpret site‑specific customer requirements and technical documentation to ensure compliant and buildable designs.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Design Support, Sales, and Supply Chain teams to coordinate design requirements and resolve conflicts.
  • Support cross‑training across Fuel and Water product lines and participate in peer checking and drawing approval processes using established review checklists.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on first‑time quality, productivity, process documentation, and design automation.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external customers to ensure clarity, alignment, and high levels of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or college‑level education in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience in a mechanical design or drafting role; additional experience considered based on capability and expectations.
  • Hands‑on experience with SolidWorks; experience with AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and technical problem solving in a customer‑driven environment.
  • Experience or training with DriveWorks, SolidWorks automation, or ERP systems such as IFS is advantageous.
  • Exposure to underground storage tank applications (e.g., septic systems, fire protection systems, wastewater treatment, oil‑water separators) is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail, customer‑service orientation, and ability to prioritize work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while contributing effectively within a collaborative team culture.
  • Professional registration with a regional or national engineering or design technologist body is considered an asset.
