Job Summary:

 

The Senior HSE Specialist is responsible for implementing and administering corporate, divisional, and site-level policies and procedures that establish and promote safe, healthy, and environmentally protective working conditions. Serving as the primary HSE resource for site operations, this role provides guidance on regulatory compliance, training program development, and incident investigations to foster an incident- and injury-free culture. This position may include responsibility for multiple production facilities and supervisory duties.  May assume responsibility for multiple sites or support regional HSE initiatives requiring advanced coordination and influence.

 

Key Responsibilites: 

 

Demonstrates Visible Leadership:

 

  • Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in HSE, providing advanced technical guidance on complex regulatory, environmental, and safety matters.
  • Leads complex incident investigations, including systemic root cause analysis and identification of cross-site trends.
  • Oversees site implementation of occupational safety, health, and environmental programs, ensuring regulatory compliance and conformance to internal HSEMS standards. Fosters a continual focus on our Incident- and Injury-Free philosophy through hands-on engagement.
  • Serves as a visible HSE presence on the production floor, actively engaging with employees and leadership.
  • Facilitates, participates in and supports site-level Leadership and Employee HSE committees, safety meetings, and culture-building activities.
  • Provides mentorship and technical coaching to HSE Specialists and site leaders to strengthen overall HSE capability.
  • Models safe behaviors and holds others accountable to HSE expectations.

 

Manages HSE Information and Risk Analysis:

 

  • Interprets HSE data trends to identify systemic risks and recommends proactive, site-wide or multi-site interventions.
  • Ensures effective use of HSE information management tools (Velocity, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) for site leaders, leveraging data to understand and manage risk. Analyzes performance trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintains all HSE records, training documentation, and compliance files in an organized and audit-ready state.
  • Generates and distributes site-level HSE performance reports and metrics.
  • Uses data insights to recommend targeted interventions and preventive measures.

 

Coordinates Environmental Compliance:

 

  • Coordinates full compliance with site environmental requirements, including waste minimization, characterization and disposal, wastewater permitting, stormwater pollution control, and air emissions compliance.
  • Takes an active role in site ESG initiatives and sustainability programs.
  • Maintains environmental permits, records, and reporting schedules.
  • Partners with operations to identify and implement pollution prevention opportunities.

 

Builds and Promotes Safety Culture:

 

  • Leads and fosters collaboration among site management, functional leaders, and employees to promote a proactive, positive, and inclusive safety culture across the site.
  • Facilitates safety engagement activities such as toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and recognition programs.
  • Encourages open communication and employee participation in hazard identification and resolution.
  • Supports supervisors and leads in integrating HSE into daily work planning.

 

Drives Risk Management and Incident Prevention:

 

  • Acts as the 'conscience for safety,' ensuring continual focus on risk management and mitigation, incident-free performance, and proactive measures to improve workplace safety.
  • Actively participates in and promotes workplace inspections, ASAs (Active Safety Audits), and HazIDs (Hazard Identifications).
  • Leads or supports incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
  • Identifies and escalates systemic risks and recommends preventive controls.

 

Experience and Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) or a related field
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of relevant experience
  • ASP, CSP, CIH, or equivalent certification preferred
