POSITION SUMMARY:
The Quality Supervisor – Nuclear and Space is accountable for leading the quality control and quality assurance activities associated with orders governed by N299, NQA-1 and other related QMS standards. This role also works with Project Management, Engineering, Production and other teams to execute advanced quality activities for nuclear and space products. The Quality Supervisor – Nuclear and Space works closely with the QHSE manager and quality team to maintain the quality management system (QMS) maintenance and implementation applicable to Nuclear and Space. This role is also responsible for developing systems and processes to maintain and improve product and service quality. This role will assist in driving the quality mindset culture of all staff and apply world-class continuous improvement best practices.
DUTIES:
Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise hourly Shawflex nuclear test inspector and Kanata quality inspector
- Develop increasingly more capable team
- Coach, mentor and develop direct reports to ensure that they are highly engaged, highly productive
- Provides direction to direct reports on prioritization of tasks and activities as per production plan requirements
Quality Execution
- Act as the primary customer quality contact for orders governed by N299, NQA-1 and applicable QMS standards
- Provide direct daily quality support and guidance on product quality to cross-functional team on order execution
- Lead/oversee completion of required customer quality documentation such as test reports, certificate of compliance and others
- Oversee incoming inspection of nuclear critical components
- Review and provide input to quote and order traveler for complex orders
- Review quality records before submission to customers
- Create and maintain quality system documents
- Analyze quality data to identify trends and action plan
- Work in conjunction with process engineering to ensure the production process is meeting required product quality
- Provide direction on quality approaches including error proofing, cost of quality, risk assessment (ex. FMEA), MSA/GRR, process audits, visual standards
- Perform nuclear QMS onboarding and quality training as required
- Chair Nuclear MRBs
- Review and approve Nuclear test procedures
Continuous Improvement
- Champion problem solving sessions (ex. A3/8D) related to internal and external non-conformances
- Identify and lead/support continuous improvement initiatives
- Train, mentor and coach team members (quality, operations, engineering) on Continuous Improvement
Audits
- Perform internal QMS audits including product /process audits and Layered Process Audits (LPA)
- Assist/administer Nuclear and Space supplier and vendor audits and assessments
- Support external quality audits including analyzing root causes, identifying and implementing corrective actions
Other duties
- Carry out and perform the duties and requirements for company HSE including hazard identification, performing safety observations (ASAs)
- Other duties assigned by manager
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Experience in quality management of manufactured products in any of the following: automotive, aerospace, nuclear is required
- Previous Nuclear experience - preferred
- Experience in Quality Standards (ISO) is required; experience in NQA-1 or CSA N299 an asset
- QMS auditor training/experience is an asset; NQA-1 auditor certification is an asset
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset
- Previous experience using ERP systems and MS Office
- Quality and Continuous Improvement mindset
- Analytical / data driven
- Ability to work under pressure and bind a team together (production, engineering, quality and other support)
- Strong ethical compass
- Good training/facilitation skills
- Above average interpersonal and communication skills
