Summary

The Grinder supports Mattr’s manufacturing operations by cutting, shaping, preparing, and grinding fiberglass-reinforced plastic parts according to specifications. Reporting to the Production Manager or Shift Supervisor, this role helps ensure products are completed safely, efficiently, and to established quality standards while supporting production schedules and assisting other assembly areas as needed.

 

Responsibilities

  • Operate machinery, equipment, power tools, and hand tools to cut, shape, splice, and fit materials into parts and assemblies.
  • Read and follow blueprints, drawings, and patterns to accurately cut and grind products.
  • Cut and prepare composite materials for joining parts and assemblies.
  • Produce products in accordance with established quality and safety standards.
  • Use materials effectively to help minimize waste and meet production requirements.
  • Manage time and material usage while maintaining quality control.
  • Work efficiently to support plant production and labor schedules.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve productivity, workflow, and product quality.
  • Accurately complete process sheets, timecards, and other required production documentation.
  • Move shells and load them onto carts.
  • Follow corporate safety rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and demonstrate a positive health and safety attitude.
  • Immediately report incidents to the appropriate supervisor and participate in investigations when required.
  • Support the development of hazard assessments and standard operating procedures.
  • Recommend process efficiency and effectiveness improvements to the Lead Hand, Supervisor, or Production Manager.
  • Assist in other assembly and indirect production activities as required.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience is not required.
  • Experience using equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Experience in a fiberglass-reinforced plastic manufacturing facility or a similar environment is preferred.
  • Strong production and quality-focused manufacturing skills.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and drawings.
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others as part of a dynamic team.
  • Ability to learn new tools, equipment, and materials used in above-ground and underground storage tank manufacturing and assembly.
  • Ability to solve mathematical problems related to the position.
  • Experience in a Lean manufacturing environment or familiarity with Lean principles is an asset.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including standing, walking, climbing, crouching, reaching, balancing, grasping, pushing, pulling, and lifting or carrying objects.
  • Ability to work in a production environment with seasonal temperature variations, continual equipment noise, dirt, dust, fibers, chemical or solvent fumes, and moving equipment.
