THE ROLE:
Reporting to Sr. Manager, Quality and Continuous Improvement, the Continuous Improvement Engineering Manager drives the achievement of Lean Transformation Goals established by Xerxes’s senior leadership. The CI Engineering Manager assists in the strategic planning and implements the strategy to support overall performance improvement objectives. Manages CI engineering team, Coaches and Mentors employees on lean improvement tools, root-cause analysis, and waste reduction to achieve sustainable and continued improvements in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth. Coordinates improvement workshops, training and development of all team members, and tracks the results of continuous improvement initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads the Continuous Improvement Engineering Team (team of 3 to 5 Engineers)
- Works with Xerxes senior and plants leadership to develop, implement and sustain a CI program based upon Lean principles that support meeting plant performance targets and financial goals
- Leads, identifies, and defines the scope of Continuous Improvement projects and activities
- Primary owner in leading and/or coordinating Continuous Improvement activities
- Leverages data and observational analysis and implement Visual Management tools to make problems visible and identify opportunities for improvement, working closely with technical resources to help drive problem solving activities, productivity improvements and identify best practices
- Facilitate and models root cause analysis and structured problem-solving to eliminate inefficiencies, recurring issues and waste of all types. Viewed as an expert in these areas
- Organizes and leads Lean improvement events with other members of the organization, applying CI methodologies, delivering the expected improvement results, and promoting skill transfer
- Leads focused efforts aimed at breakthrough and incremental improvements in process, department and/or line-specific opportunities that meet and exceed plant operational performance metrics
- Monitor data and metric trends to identify areas of waste and prioritize the development and implementation of solutions
- Effectively collaborates with all stakeholders affected by CI projects
- Coordinate training on Lean methodologies and other improvement tools as required, tracking the progress and effectiveness of the training provided
- Maintains a record of the cost savings achieved through CI initiatives across all manufacturing sites
- TRAVEL: Up to 60% of travel is anticipated within North America
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three years of managerial experience.
- Minimum of five years of direct experience within a manufacturing operation leading lean and continuous improvement efforts
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering master or PHD degree will be an asset
- Working knowledge of Toyota Lean Principles (TPS) and Lean Manufacturing improvement tool set
- Able to organize, maintain focus, and follow up on projects independently
- Experienced on Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement methodologies and ability to model them and coach others
- Experienced leading cost-savings projects of high value and complexity from ideation and chartering through successful completion and sustainment
- Ability to lead through influence, mentorship and coaching to get results through others
- Solves highly complex problems and prioritizes actions in a timely manner. Probes all sources for answers and can quickly sense what will help resolve issues
- Speaks candidly and provides constructive feedback in a professional manner
- Organizes and manages projects; interacts, supports, facilitates and leads multi-functional work teams; leads teams to consensus; strong negotiation skills
